Nintendo DSi Master Key / Parental Controls: No Bypass

There is no legitimate "master key" or bypass for Nintendo DSi Parental Controls. The "master key" referenced in the manual is a **one-time recovery code generated by Nintendo Support** after identity verification — not a universal code you can guess or find online.

How Parental Controls Work (DSi)

• 4-digit PIN set by parent.
• Restricts: Game ratings, PictoChat, DS Download Play, Browser, Shop, Photo Exchange.
• Forgotten PIN → **Secret Question** (set at creation) → Answer → Reset PIN.
• Forgotten PIN + Secret Question → **Call Nintendo Support (800-255-3700 US)** → Provide **Console Serial Number** (back sticker) + **Inquiry Number** (shown on "I Forgot" screen) → Agent generates **Master Key (5-digit)** → Enter on DSi → PIN Cleared.

Why You Can't Bypass It

• The Inquiry Number is **cryptographically derived** from the console's unique keys + current date/time + PIN hash. It changes daily.
• Only Nintendo's server (or leaked keygen — **illegal, DMCA, bricks console**) can generate the valid Master Key.
• Hardware mods (NAND dump/reflash) require **hardmod (soldering)** + **NAND backup** — high brick risk, loses eShop/DSiWare (servers dead).

Legitimate Recovery Steps

1. Try **Secret Question** on "I Forgot" screen.
2. If failed: **Call Nintendo** (still operational for legacy hardware). Have Serial # ready. Free.
3. If bought used: Ask seller for PIN. If they don't know → Return/Refund (eBay/PayPal "Not As Described").

DSi Homebrew Alternative (If You Own It)

Install **Unlaunch + HiyaCFW / TWiLight Menu++** (via dsi.cfw.guide). This boots **directly to homebrew menu**, **bypassing Parental Controls entirely** (they only apply to System Menu). You can then:

• Launch any cartridge / DSiWare / NDS ROM (via TWiLight).
• Backup saves (GodMode9i).
• Remove PIN by deleting `sysdata` (advanced).

Requires: PC, SD Card, Magnet (for flipnote exploit) or Hardmod. Safe if followed exactly.

Do not pay for "master key generators" — they are scams / malware.
