Nintendogs (DS): How Time Passes (Virtual Clock, Not Real-Time)

Nintendogs uses an accelerated Virtual Clock, not real-time.

Mechanics

  • ~30 Real Minutes = 1 In-Game Day. (Varies slightly by activity).
  • Actions Advance Time: Walking, Contests, Training, Shopping, Bark Mode, Petting.
  • Sleep = Big Jump: Tuck dog into bed (Dog House icon) → "Good Night" → Screen fades → Next Morning. Major time skip.
  • No Sleep = Slow Crawl: If you just leave game on, time barely moves.

Daily Cycle

  1. Wake Up (Auto).
  2. Morning: Feed, Water, Brush, Train.
  3. Day: Walk (Find presents, meet dogs), Contest (Disc/Obedience/Agility), Shop.
  4. Evening: Feed, Brush, Play.
  5. Sleep → Next Day.

Tips

  • Multiple Walks/Day: Save/Quit/Restart? No, walk cooldown ~30 mins real time / per save session.
  • Bark Mode: DS Sleep Mode (Close Lid) + Wireless On → StreetPass-like encounters. Gifts.
  • Time Travel (System Clock): Change DS Date → Next Day instantly. Risks: Walking cooldown resets? Villager mood? Generally safe in Nintendogs (unlike AC).

Control pace: Play actively = Fast days. Sleep = Skip to next morning.
