Dog Breeds in Nintendogs — How It Works (Procedural Mix, Not Selection)

You **don’t choose a specific breed** at start. Instead, you adopt a **puppy** whose adult appearance and personality emerge from:

Determining Factors

  1. Parent Breeds (Hidden): When selecting a puppy, you see two “parent” dogs (e.g., Labrador + Beagle). The puppy inherits a **mix of their visual traits** (coat, ears, snout, size, color).
  2. Your Care & Training:
    • **Personality:** Affection, obedience, energy shaped by petting, scolding, walking, feeding.
    • **Physical Changes:** Coat length, muscle tone, weight shift slightly with activity/diet.
  3. Random Variation: Each puppy has hidden “genes” — siblings from same parents differ.

Breed Representation

The game includes **~20 base breeds** across versions (Labrador, Chihuahua, Dachshund, Golden Retriever, Pug, Siberian Husky, Shiba Inu, Yorkshire Terrier, Shetland Sheepdog, Boxer, German Shepherd, Cavalier King Charles, Miniature Schnauzer, Pomeranian, Maltese, Cocker Spaniel, Poodle, Beagle, Welsh Corgi, Jack Russell). Your dog is a **procedural blend**, not a purebred label.

Version Differences

  • Lab & Friends: Labrador, Miniature Schnauzer, Toy Poodle, etc.
  • Chihuahua & Friends: Chihuahua, German Shepherd, Boxer, etc.
  • Dachshund & Friends: Dachshund, Golden Retriever, Pug, etc.
  • Dalmatian & Friends (JP only): Dalmatian, etc.
  • Best Friends (DSiWare): Subset.

**You raise a unique mutt.** No breed selector. The surprise is the feature.
