How to Make a Game on Roblox

You create games inside Roblox Studio — a free desktop application linked to your Roblox account.

Step-by-Step

  1. Create Account: roblox.com → Sign Up.
  2. Install Studio: Log in → Click "Create" (top bar) → "Start Creating" → Downloads RobloxStudio.dmg / .exe → Install.
  3. Launch Studio: Sign in with same account. Choose Baseplate (empty) or Template (Obby, Racing, RPG, etc.).
  4. Learn the Interface:
    • Explorer / Properties: Hierarchy & settings of every object.
    • Toolbox: Free models, audio, plugins, meshes (search "free").
    • Script Editor: Write Luau (Roblox's typed Lua 5.1 variant).
    • Viewport: 3D scene — move/scale/rotate (W/E/R), terrain editor, test play (F5).
  5. Build → Script → Test Loop:
    • Parts (blocks, spheres, wedges) → Union / Negate (CSG) for shapes.
    • Scripts: ServerScriptService (server logic), StarterPlayerScripts (client), ModuleScripts (shared).
    • RemoteEvents/Functions for client↔server comms.
  6. Publish: File → Game Settings → Name, Description, Genre, Icon → Save to Roblox → Publish (Public/Private/Friends).

Essential Learning Resources

  • Roblox Developer Hub (create.roblox.com) — tutorials, API reference, engine updates.
  • TheDevKing / AlvinBlox / B Ricey (YouTube) — beginner to advanced series.
  • Roblox Education — lesson plans, coding camps.
  • DevForum (devforum.roblox.com) — Q&A, resources, collaboration.

Monetization (Later)

  • Game Passes / Developer Products (Robux).
  • Premium Payouts (engagement-based).
  • Must be 13+, ID verified, DevEx eligible (100k Robux = $350).

Start small: finish an Obby (obstacle course) first. Ship, get feedback, iterate.
