Xbox Live Silver: Online Multiplayer Limitations

Xbox Live Silver (now called Xbox Live Free) allows you to play online only with friends. You can join a friend’s hosted multiplayer session, but you cannot:

• Join public matches
• Use matchmaking systems
• Play with strangers

To access full online multiplayer—including matchmaking, public lobbies, and party chat—you need an Xbox Live Gold subscription (now part of Xbox Game Pass Core).
