Can You Play Mario Kart Wii Online in 2024? Not Officially—But Wiimmfi Exists

Not officially. Nintendo shut down the Wii/DS online servers (Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection) on May 20, 2014. But a thriving community replacement keeps online alive.

Community-Run Alternative: Wiimmfi

• Wiimmfi — Fan-run replacement server for Mario Kart Wii, Pokémon Gen IV/V, Animal Crossing: Wild World, and more.
• Requirements:
  • A hacked Wii (Homebrew Channel) or a Wii U in vWii mode with homebrew.
  • Patching the game ISO or using the Mario Kart Wii Wiimmfi Patcher.
  • DNS change on console (95.217.77.151 / 1.1.1.1).
• Dolphin Emulator (PC/Android) — Netplay + Wiimmfi support; best performance and features.

Local Play Still Works

• Split-screen 2–4 players on one Wii—no internet needed.

Warning: Unofficial servers and homebrew carry risks (bricks, bans from other Nintendo services). Proceed only if comfortable with modding.
