Transferring Movies from PS3 to PSP: Not Direct — Convert & Copy

You cannot "highlight and send" a movie from PS3 to PSP. Different DRM, codecs, filesystems. Actual workflow:

Why Direct Transfer Fails

• PS3 Video: Often MPEG-2 TS (Blu-ray/DVR), VC-1, H.264 in .m2ts/.mp4 — sometimes Cinavia/DRM protected
• PSP Video Spec: **H.264/AVC Main/High Profile Level 3.0**, max 720×480 (480p) or 480×272, **AAC-LC 2-ch audio**, **MP4 container**, **no DRM**
• No PS3→PSP Sync: Remote Play streams *screen*, not files. Media Server shares to PS3, not from it.

Step-by-Step: Get Your Movie on PSP

1. Source the File Legally: Rip own DVD/Blu-ray (MakeMKV) → .mkv/.mp4. Or buy DRM-free (GOG, itch.io).
2. Convert to PSP Spec: Use HandBrake (free, cross-platform):
   • Preset: "PlayStation Portable" (or "Legacy" → "PSP")
   • Video: H.264, Avg 768 kbps (or 1500 for quality), 2-pass
   • Audio: AAC, 128 kbps, Stereo
   • Dimensions: 720×480 (keep aspect) or 480×272
   • Output: VIDEO_TITLE.mp4
3. Transfer:
   • PSP → USB → PC → MP_ROOT/100MNV01/ (or VIDEO/ on newer firmware)

If It's a PSN Purchase

PSN video purchases are **locked to account + device**. You *cannot* transfer to PSP. Re-buy on PSP store (if still active) or watch on PS3/PS4/PS5/PC via app.
