Viewing Photos on PS3: Limited but Possible

The PS3 isn't a photo frame, but you can view images via several paths:

1. USB Drive (Easiest)

  1. Format USB as FAT32.
  2. Create folder PICTURE (all caps) on root. Drop JPEGs/PNGs inside.
  3. Plug into PS3 → Photo Gallery → USB Device → View.
  4. Slideshow: △ (Triangle) → Slideshow. Options: interval, transition, music (from HDD).

2. Media Server (PC/NAS → PS3)

  • PC: Enable "Media Streaming" in Windows (Control Panel → Network → Media Streaming). Share Pictures library.
  • NAS: Enable DLNA/UPnP (Synology Media Server, Plex, Jellyfin).
  • PS3: Photo Gallery → Search for Media Servers → Select → Browse folders.
  • Advantage: No USB shuffle; accesses whole library.

3. PSN Profile Avatar / Background

  • Photo → △ → "Set as Avatar" or "Set as Background" (Profile). Visible to friends.
  • Limited to 1 avatar + 1 background per account.

4. Third-Party Apps (Historical)

  • Photo Gallery (native) is the only reliable viewer. No apps on PS Store for photo management (store closed 2021).

Limitations

  • Max resolution: 1920×1080 (downscales higher).
  • No RAW, HEIC, TIFF support. Convert to JPEG.
  • No EXIF metadata view (date, GPS, camera).
  • Slideshow transitions are basic.

For serious photo viewing, use a tablet, PC, or smart TV. PS3 is a fallback.
