Connect PS4 to Laptop Screen: 3 Methods (Remote Play, Capture Card, USB-C)

1. PS Remote Play (Official, Free, Wireless/Wired)

Requires: PS4 (system 7.0+), Windows 10/11 / macOS / Android / iOS, 5+ Mbps upload (15+ Mbps for 1080p60).

  1. Enable: PS4 → Settings → Remote Play Connection Settings → Enable.
  2. Set as Primary PS4 (Settings → Account Management).
  3. Install PS Remote Play app (Microsoft Store / Mac App Store / Play Store / App Store).
  4. Sign in same PSN → Start → selects PS4 → streams.

Pros: No extra hardware, 1080p60, low latency on LAN. Cons: Needs good upload, adds ~20–50 ms latency.

2. HDMI Capture Card (Best Quality, Recording)

Hardware: Elgato HD60 X / S, AVerMedia Live Gamer 4K, generic USB 3.0 HDMI capture ($15–$180).

  1. PS4 HDMI → Capture Card IN.
  2. Capture Card USB → Laptop.
  3. Open OBS / Elgato 4K Capture Utility / Camera app (Windows).

Pros: Near-zero latency, 4K60 HDR passthrough, record/stream. Cons: Cost, bulk, laptop must handle encoding.

3. USB-C to HDMI Input (Rare — Laptop Must Support HDMI-IN)

Almost no laptops have HDMI-IN. USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode is output only. Only a few mobile workstations (old Alienware, some Clevo) had HDMI-in. Don't buy an adapter expecting it to work.

Recommendation

  • Casual play: Remote Play (wired Ethernet both ends).
  • Content creation / competitive: Capture card.
