PlayStation Points: Not Free Currency

PlayStation Points (2007–2011) did not make content free.

How They Worked

• Purchased with real money (e.g., $20 = 2000 Points)
• Used as digital wallet currency on PS Store
• Prices displayed in Points (1¢ = 1 Point)
• No discounts or bonus value vs. direct payment

Current System

• Replaced by PlayStation Store Wallet (direct local currency)
• Funds added via credit card, PayPal, or gift cards
• No intermediate points conversion

Historical Promotions

Occasional campaigns gave bonus Points (e.g., "buy $50, get 500 free"), but base items were never free.
