Can a PlayStation Destroy a TV? Extremely Unlikely

A PlayStation cannot "destroy" a modern television. HDMI is a protected digital interface—no voltage/current transfer capable of damage.

Why It's Safe

  • HDMI Spec: 5V/50mA max on DDC/HPD lines—negligible.
  • TV Protection: ESD clamping, overvoltage detection, port isolation.
  • Console PSU: Internal—TV only receives signal, not power.
  • Firmware Guardrails: Output timings validated; invalid modes = no signal, not damage.

Theoretical Edge Cases (Near‑Zero Probability)

  • Faulty HDMI cable + power surge—Surge travels cable → TV port (surge protector prevents).
  • Console catastrophic failure (shorted HDMI PHY)—Could kill TV port, not panel.
  • Overheating proximity: Console exhaust venting into TV vents → thermal stress over years.

Best Practices

  • Quality HDMI cable (Premium Certified / Ultra High Speed)
  • Surge protector (not power strip) for both devices
  • 6"+ clearance around both for airflow
  • Don't stack console on TV (block vents)

PlayStation → TV via HDMI is one of the safest connections in consumer electronics. Fear is unfounded.
