Playing GameCube Games on Wii: How to Insert Discs Correctly
Yes, the original Wii (RVL-001) plays GameCube discs natively.
Here's how:
Insert GameCube Disc:
Place disc label-up into the
vertical slot
(same slot as Wii discs). Wii pulls it in.
GameCube Controller:
Plug into
Port 1
(under front flap). WaveBird wireless works.
GameCube Memory Card:
Insert into
Slot A
(beside controller ports) to save.
Start:
Game appears as a channel on Wii Menu. Select to play.
Notes
Wii Family Edition (RVL-101) & Wii Mini:
No GameCube support
(no ports, no backward compat).
Region Lock:
Wii plays GC games of same region only.
No Upscaling:
Outputs 480p max (component cable) or 480i (composite).
