Downloading Games onto CDs That Already Have Games? Impossible—CD-R Is Write-Once

Impossible. Standard CDs (CD-R) are write-once. Once burned, data cannot be added, changed, or deleted.

How Game Distribution Works

• Physical (pressed disc): Factory-stamped (CD-ROM/DVD-ROM/BD-ROM). Read-only forever.
• Digital download: Files written to hard drive / SSD (rewritable). Installed via platform client (Steam, Epic, EA App, console store).
• Backup: You can copy a disc's contents to HDD (ISO), but not onto another finalized CD-R.

Rewritable Media (CD-RW / DVD-RW / BD-RE)

• Can erase/rewrite ~1000 times.
• But: Consoles do not read CD-RW/DVD-RW for games (wobble groove missing, reflectivity wrong). Only for homebrew on modded hardware.

Modern Reality

Games are downloaded to internal storage. Discs are just license keys + partial install. No burning needed.
