What Does the Bible Say About Video Games? Principles for Modern Gaming

The Bible doesn't mention video games (written millennia before they existed). But its principles apply:

Key Biblical Principles for Gaming

• Moderation & Self-Control (1 Cor 6:12; Gal 5:22-23): "All things lawful, not all beneficial." Avoid enslavement to any habit.
• Thought Life (Phil 4:8): Focus on what's true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable. Does game content align?
• Time Stewardship (Eph 5:15-16): "Make the most of every opportunity." Balance gaming with responsibilities, relationships, rest.
• Guard Your Heart (Prov 4:23): Media shapes desires. Avoid content promoting violence, lust, greed.
• Priority of God's Kingdom (Matt 6:33): Gaming shouldn't displace worship, service, family, work.

Application

No universal rule. Ask yourself:

• Does this game edify or corrupt my mind?
• Is my time usage honoring God?
• Does it harm my relationships or witness?
