Yes. A standard 2D monitor cannot display stereoscopic 3D. You require a display capable of presenting separate images to each eye.
3D Display Technologies (PC)
NVIDIA 3D Vision (Discontinued): Required 120Hz+ monitor + active shutter glasses + IR emitter. Best quality; driver support ended 2019 (works on older drivers/Win10).
HDMI 1.4a 3D (Frame Packing): Works with 3D TVs / projectors; supports 1080p@24Hz or 720p@60Hz per eye. High latency on TVs.
Passive 3D Monitors (FPR / Patterned Retarder): Lightweight polarized glasses; half vertical resolution per eye (540p/eye at 1080p). Rare now.
VR Headsets (Best Modern Option): Quest 2/3 (Link/AirLink), Valve Index, Bigscreen Beyond. Render true stereoscopic 3D with head tracking. Use Vorpx, Reshade VR, or native VR mods for flat games.
Software Side
Games must support Stereoscopic 3D (side-by-side, top-bottom, quad-buffer).
NVIDIA 3D Vision Profile / Helix Mod / 3DMigoto / UEVR (UE4/5 VR injection) enable 3D in unsupported titles.
Without a 3D-capable display (monitor, TV, or VR headset), 3D gaming is impossible.
