Can DS Lite Play DSi Games? No—Hardware Incompatibility (CPU, RAM, Cart Slot)

No. The Nintendo DS Lite cannot play DSi-exclusive games (cartridges with white shell / TWL prefix).

Why

• CPU: DSi has faster ARM9 (133 MHz vs 67 MHz) + new ARM7 (32-bit vs 16-bit).
• RAM: DSi has 16 MB WRAM + 16 MB VRAM; DS Lite has 4 MB WRAM + 656 KB VRAM.
• Cartridge Slot: DSi game cards have extra contacts for faster bus / encryption; DS Lite slot lacks pins.
• Features Used: Cameras, SD slot, DSi Shop, larger NAND — absent on DS Lite.

What Does Work

• All standard DS games (black cartridges) play on DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, 2DS.
• DSi-enhanced games (hybrid carts, black shell, TWL prefix but DS-compatible) run in DS mode on DS Lite.

DSi-exclusive titles: System Flaw, Face Training, Photo Clock, Monster Finder, and DSiWare (digital only).
