Will There Be a Nintendogs 2?

Unlikely as a direct sequel. Here's why, and what might happen instead:

Barriers

• Mobile Saturation: Neko Atsume, Pou, My Talking Tom, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp dominate pet sim on phones—free, accessible, social.
• Nintendo's Focus: Core IP (Mario, Zelda, Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Splatoon) drive hardware sales. Nintendogs sold 24M on DS but hasn't had a mainline entry since 2011 (Nintendogs + Cats 3DS launch title).
• No Announcements: No trademarks, leaks, or dev interviews since 2011.

Possible Futures

• Switch / Switch 2 Revival: Nintendogs + Cats on 3DS used AR cards + 3D. Switch's camera/touch/gyro could evolve it. But Animal Crossing: New Horizons already fills "daily cute life sim."
• AR / Mobile Spin-off: Pokémon GO style—walk real dog, AR interactions, Niantic partnership.
• Labo / Toy-Con Integration: Cardboard pet accessories? Unlikely.
• Cameos: Nintendogs puppies appear in Super Smash Bros. (Assist Trophy), Mario Kart (Mii suits), Animal Crossing (furniture).

Best Current Fix

Play Nintendogs + Cats on 3DS (backward compatible on Switch via... no, 3DS only). Or Little Friends: Dogs & Cats (Switch, 2019) – spiritual successor by Imagineer.

Never say never, but don't hold your breath for Nintendogs 2.
