Where Were Nintendo GameCube Discs Manufactured?

GameCube used proprietary 8cm miniDVD discs (1.46 GB), manufactured by:

  • Japan: Nintendo (Yamaguchi plant), Matsushita/Panasonic (disc mastering/replication). Primary source.
  • Taiwan: Ritek, CMC Magnetics – major optical media contractors for Nintendo.
  • South Korea: LG Chem / Hitachi-LG Data Storage – replication for Asian/NTSC-J/K regions.
  • USA: Sony DADC (Springfield, OR) – some NTSC-U runs (Sony DADC replicated for many publishers).
  • Europe: Sony DADC (Austria/Germany), PDO (UK) – PAL region discs.

Discs have a burst cutting area (BCA) mark for region/authentication. Manufacturing location is often printed in tiny text near the hub (e.g., "MADE IN JAPAN", "MANUFACTURED IN TAIWAN").

GameCube discs are not cartridges – a common misconception. N64 used cartridges; GC used optical discs.
