Factory Reset Nintendo DSi XL: Complete Steps & Warnings

⚠ WARNING: This permanently erases ALL data—game saves, DSiWare, photos, sound recordings, settings, and Parental Controls. Back up first!

Method 1: System Settings (Standard)

1. Power on DSi XL.
2. Tap the Wrench/Gear icon (System Settings) on the main menu.
3. Navigate to the 4th page (right arrow ×3) → select Other.
4. Select Format System Memory.
5. Read warnings. Tap Format → Yes to confirm.
6. System reboots to initial setup (language, date, nickname, etc.).

Method 2: Via SD Card (If Menu Access Fails)

1. Power off. Remove SD card. Insert into computer.
2. Delete all files/folders on the SD card (this clears DSiWare saves/photos stored there).
3. Reinsert SD card into DSi XL.
4. Power on. System detects empty/corrupt SD data → prompts "Format System Memory?" → Select Yes.

Critical Pre-Reset Checklist

• Transfer saves/photos to SD card (Data Management in Settings) → copy to PC.
• Note down Parental Controls PIN if set (required to format).
