Best Free First-Person Games for Kids (With Safety Tips)

Finding genuinely kid-friendly free FPS games is tough—most free shooters target teens/adults with violence, microtransactions, and toxic chat. However, a few titles with cartoonish aesthetics and lighter themes can work with supervision.

Free-to-Play (Optional Cosmetics/MTX)

  • Fortnite (Creative / LEGO Fortnite / Rocket Racing): Battle Royale is T-rated, but Creative mode and the new LEGO/Racing modes offer non-violent building, exploration, and racing. Disable voice chat & set purchase PINs.
  • Roblox: A platform, not a single game. Millions of user-created experiences include mild FPS games (Arsenal, Bad Business). Use Account Restrictions (under 13) to curate content.
  • Minecraft (Java/Bedrock): First-person perspective, zero violence in Creative/Peaceful modes. Educational, creative, and safe. Paid, but often bundled or via Game Pass.

Browser-Based (Zero Install)

  • Krunker.io: Blocky, fast-paced, low-gore. Runs on potatoes. Community servers can have toxic chat.
  • Shell Shockers: You play as an egg. Weapons are egg-themed. Silly, less visceral. Still competitive.

Critical Safety Checklist

  • ESRB/PEGI Ratings: Check every game. "Cartoony" ≠ "E for Everyone."
  • Parental Controls: Enable platform-level limits (playtime, spending, communication, friend requests).
  • Voice/Text Chat: Disable entirely for young kids. Use "Friends Only" for older.
  • Co-Play & Discuss: Play with them. Talk about sportsmanship, spending, and stranger danger.

Non-Violent Alternatives

If shooting—even cartoon eggs—feels wrong, try Platformers (Super Mario Odyssey, Celeste), Puzzle/Adventure (Portal 2, Zelda: BotW), or Creative Sandboxes (Minecraft Creative, Dreams, Roblox Studio).
