Risk of Ban for Modding GTA IV on PS3

High risk. Modding GTA IV on PS3 (CFW, mod menus, modified saves) violates Rockstar's EULA and Sony's PSN Terms of Service.

Ban Vectors

  • Rockstar Social Club: Detects modified game memory, impossible stats, injected vehicles → Account suspension/ban.
  • PSN System Software: CFW (HEN, Rebug, Evilnat) is detectable via system call checks; Sony issues console bans (error 8002A224) in waves.
  • Multiplayer Reports: Other players report god mode, spawning, money drops → Manual review → Ban.

Safer Alternatives

  • Single-Player Mods on CFW (Offline Only): Disable network (Airplane Mode) before launching. Use mods like Simple Native Trainer for SP fun. Never sign in to PSN.
  • Private Community Servers: Projects like GTA IV: Multiplayer (IV:MP) or RAGE:MP on PC. PS3 has no active private server scene.
  • PC Version: Modding is supported (OpenIV, ScriptHookV) and Rockstar tolerates SP mods. Buy on Steam/Epic (~$5 sale).

If You Already Modded on PSN

  • Delete modded saves.
  • Reinstall official firmware (OFW) via recovery mode.
  • Create new PSN account; old one likely flagged.

PS3 modding in 2024 is a cat-and-mouse game; assume any PSN connection on CFW carries ban risk.
