GTA IV Local Multiplayer? No—Only Online (Defunct) / GTA V Has It

Grand Theft Auto IV has no local (split-screen/System Link) multiplayer. Only online via **Rockstar Games Social Club** (Xbox 360/PS3/PC). Those servers are largely empty; Games for Windows Live shut down 2014 (PC uses Social Club now).

Local Co-op Alternatives in Series

• GTA V (PS3/360/PS4/XB1/PC): **2-player split-screen** in **GTA Online** (invite friend to session → "Start Split Screen" on second controller). Not in Story Mode.
• GTA: San Andreas (PS2/Xbox/PC): **2-player rampages** (free-roam) — find red two-player icons.
• GTA: Liberty City Stories / Vice City Stories (PSP/PS2): Ad-hoc Wi-Fi multiplayer (up to 6).

If You Want GTA IV Co-op Today

• Two PCs + **Parsec** (remote play) — host shares screen/controller.
• Two Xbox 360s + **System Link** (LAN cable / XLink Kai) — only **Deathmatch / Race** modes, no free roam.

For couch co-op chaos, **GTA V split-screen Online** is the only modern official way.
