Recovering PSN ID After PS3 Restore – Not Automatic

Restoring PS3 (Settings → System Settings → Restore PS3 System) does NOT delete your PSN account / Online ID. They are stored on Sony's servers, not the console.

If You Forgot Your Online ID

  1. Check PS3: Settings → Account Management → Sign In → Triangle on "Sign In" → "Forgot Password/ID?" → Follow email reset.
  2. Web: account.sony.com → "Trouble Signing In?" → "Online ID."
  3. Email Search: Search inbox for "PlayStation Network," "Welcome to PSN," purchase receipts.
  4. Old Console: If you have another PS3/PS4/PS5/Vita signed in → Settings → Account → Online ID.

If Account Compromised / Lost Access

Contact PlayStation Support (Live Chat / Phone): playstation.com/support. Provide:

  • Original email, birthdate, console serial (back of unit), purchase history (last 4 digits of card), previous Online IDs.

Warning: No third party can "recover" your ID. Scams abound. Only Sony Support.

PS3 Restore = Factory Reset

  • Deletes: Users, saves, games, patches, settings, browser history, trophies (local copy – re-syncs on sign-in).
  • Keeps: System firmware (does not downgrade).
  • Does NOT touch: PSN server account, Online ID, friends, trophies (server), licenses.

Just sign in again after restore. Your digital games (if licenses valid) reappear in Download List.
