GTA IV on PS3: Not Compatible with PS2

No. Grand Theft Auto IV was released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC (Windows) only. It does not run on PlayStation 2.

Technical Reason

• Engine: RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine) / Euphoria physics require PS3's Cell Broadband Engine / RSX GPU or Xbox 360's Xenon CPU / Xenos GPU.
• PS2 Hardware: Emotion Engine (EE) + Graphics Synthesizer (GS) + 32MB RAM. Incapable of rendering GTA IV's map, physics, NPC density, or shader pipeline.
• Storage: GTA IV requires ~16-22 GB install. PS2 DVD-ROM holds 4.7 GB (single layer) / 8.5 GB (dual layer).

PS2 GTA Titles

The PS2 received three mainline 3D Universe GTAs:

1. Grand Theft Auto III (2001)
2. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002)
3. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (2004)

Plus Liberty City Stories & Vice City Stories (PSP ports). These are the only GTAs playable on original PS2 hardware.
