Can You Stand a PS3 on Its Side?

Not recommended. The PS3 (all models) is engineered for vertical orientation.

Risks of Horizontal Placement

• Disc drive: Slot-loading mechanism relies on gravity alignment; vertical reduces read errors and disc scratching.
• Cooling: Heatsink fins and fan ducting are optimized for vertical convection. Horizontal restricts airflow → higher temps → shorter lifespan.
• Structural: Internal ribbon cables and daughterboards (especially on fat PS3) can stress over time when sideways.

If You Must Go Horizontal

• Use the official vertical stand (included with fat PS3, sold separately for slim) rotated 90°—it provides feet and stability.
• Ensure 4+ inches clearance on all vent sides.
• Monitor temps with WebMAN/MultiMAN (CFW) or feel for excessive heat.

Best practice: keep it vertical on the stand.
