Do PS2 Games Work on PS3? Here's the Truth

No, PS2 discs do not work directly on PS3. The two consoles use fundamentally different architectures:

• Processor: PS2 uses the custom Emotion Engine; PS3 uses the Cell Broadband Engine.
• Memory: Incompatible types and configurations.
• Graphics: Different GPU architectures entirely.

How to Play PS2 Games on PS3

While disc backward compatibility is absent, there are two official ways to play select PS2 titles on PS3:

• PS2 Classics: Purchase and download select emulated titles from the PlayStation Store.
• PlayStation Now: Stream a library of PS2 games with a subscription (availability varies by region).

Not every PS2 game is available through these methods. Check the PlayStation Store or PS Now catalog for specific titles you want to play.
