Playing GTA 4 Online on PS3: Servers Shut Down in 2017 – Alternatives

You can no longer play Grand Theft Auto IV online on PlayStation 3. Rockstar Games shut down the official multiplayer servers in December 2017.

Why Online Play Is Unavailable

• Server Closure: Rockstar discontinued support for GTA IV's online infrastructure.
• No Official Alternative: There is no supported way to play online outside the original servers.

Alternative Ways to Experience GTA IV

• Single-Player Campaign: Enjoy the full story mode offline.
• Play GTA V / GTA Online: Both are actively supported on PS3 (and newer consoles) with robust multiplayer.
• PC Modding (Advanced): The PC version has community mods that restore or create custom multiplayer, but this requires technical skill and is unsupported.

While online play is gone, the single-player experience remains rich and engaging.
