Can You Play Dead Ops Arcade in Third-Person? No—It's Hardcoded Top-Down

No. Dead Ops Arcade (and DOA II/III in Black Ops 1/3/Cold War) is hardcoded as a top-down twin-stick shooter. The camera perspective is fixed in the game engine; no console command, mod, or config file alters it.

Why It's Fixed

  • Gameplay Design: Enemy spawn patterns, projectile trajectories, power-up radii, and player hitboxes are balanced exclusively for the overhead view.
  • Engine Limitations: It runs on a custom minigame subsystem within the Treyarch engine, not the main FPS renderer. No camera entity exists to reposition.
  • No Mod Support: Black Ops 1/2/3 on PC have limited mod tools (mod tools released for BO1/BO3 but DOA maps not exposed). Console: impossible.

True Third-Person Zombie Shooters

  • Dead Island 2 / Dying Light 2: Melee-focused, open world, co-op.
  • Resident Evil 4 (Remake) / 5 / 6: Over-the-shoulder, action-horror.
  • World War Z / Back 4 Blood: Horde shooter, third-person (WWZ) / FPS (B4B).
  • Remnant 2: Souls-like third-person, procedural, co-op.
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 (upcoming): Immersive sim, FPS but heavy survival.

If you want Dead Ops specifically, embrace the arcade top-down chaos—it's the point.
