Creating a PSN Account Under 18: Requires Parental Consent

You cannot create a PlayStation Network account under 18 without parental involvement. Sony enforces this globally for safety/COPPA/GDPR-K compliance.

Correct Process (Parent + Child)

  1. Parent creates adult account (if none exists) on PSN / account.sony.com.
  2. Parent adds Child Account: Settings → Family Management → Add Family Member → "Add a Child." Enter child's DOB.
  3. Verify Parental Consent: $0.50 credit card charge (refunded) or ID scan (region-dependent).
  4. Child Signs In: On console, "New User" → "Create Account" → enter child's email (sub-account).

Restrictions on Child Accounts

  • Spending limits (set by parent).
  • Communication filters (friends only / no one).
  • Content rating caps (ESRB/PEGI).
  • Play time limits / playable hours.
  • No browser (optional).

At 18

Account auto-upgrades to adult; restrictions lift; can manage own wallet.

Do not fake birthdate—permanent ban risk if detected.
