Does Super Smash Bros. Melee Save Data to the Wii? No—GameCube Memory Card Only

No. Super Smash Bros. Melee is a GameCube game. It saves exclusively to a GameCube Memory Card inserted in Slot A or B—not to the Wii's internal NAND.

How to Save on Wii

  • Insert a GameCube Memory Card into the Wii's top slots (flip the cover).
  • Launch Melee via Disc Channel or backward compatibility.
  • Game will prompt to create/save to the GC card.

Transferring Saves

  • Wii → Wii: Copy GC saves via Data Management → Save Data → GameCube → Copy (requires two GC cards or SD card + homebrew).
  • Wii → PC (Dolphin): Use GCMM homebrew to dump saves to SD, then import to Dolphin.
  • Wii U: vWii mode supports GC cards + same process.

No Wii internal save support exists for any GameCube title.
