Nintendo DSi XL: Can You Download Games? Only DSiWare (via Wi-Fi)

The DSi XL **cannot download full retail games**—no eShop like 3DS/Switch. Options:

1. DSiWare (Official, Requires Wi-Fi)

• System Settings → Internet → Connect to **WPA2-AES** network (DSi supports WPA2, unlike DS Lite).
• Launch **Nintendo DSi Shop** (icon on menu).
• Browse ~300 titles (games, clocks, calculators). Prices: 200–800 Nintendo Points (100 pts = $1).
• Shop closed March 2017 — **no new purchases**, only **redownload** of previously bought titles.

2. Physical Game Cards (Primary)

• Standard **DS Game Cards** (dark gray) — play all DS/DSi-enhanced titles.
• DSi-Exclusive Cards (white shell, TWL-XXXX) — use cameras, extra RAM. **Only work on DSi/3DS family.**
• Buy used: eBay, retro shops, Mercari.

3. ROMs / Homebrew (Technical, Legal Gray)

• Install **TWiLight Menu++** / **hiyaCFW** on DSi (requires PC + SD card).
• Load `.nds` ROMs from SD — plays retail + DSiWare backups.
• Legal only if you own the cart. Piracy = copyright infringement.

Easiest legitimate route: **buy used DS carts** — huge library, cheap, no internet needed.
