Will There Be a Nintendo DS 3? No — Here's What's Next

No. The Nintendo DS line ended in 2013 (2DS final model). Nintendo has no plans for a "DS 3."

Why

• Successor Exists: Nintendo 3DS (2011) was the DS successor — stereoscopic 3D, backward compatible. Sold 76M.
• Unified Platform: Nintendo Switch (2017) merged handheld + home console. 141M+ sold. Current focus.
• Dual-Screen Concept Retired: 3DS kept it; Switch abandoned it (single touchscreen). Devs/publishers moved on.
• Market Shift: Mobile phones absorbed casual handheld gaming. Nintendo targets "dedicated hybrid" niche.

What Is Next

• "Switch 2" (Rumored 2025): Backward compatible, DLSS, 4K docked, 1080p handheld, new Joy-Cons. Not a DS.
• No Clamshell Dual-Screen: Patents exist (foldable, dual-screen) but none signal product.
