DS Lite Charger vs. DSi XL Charger – Not Interchangeable

No, they are different. Using the wrong one risks damage.

Consequences of Mismatch

  • DSi Charger (4.6V) → DS Lite (needs 5.2V): May not charge, or charge extremely slowly. Safe but ineffective.
  • DS Lite Charger (5.2V) → DSi/XL/3DS (needs 4.6V): Overvoltage. Can damage charging circuit, battery, or PMIC. Do not do this.

Universal Solution

  • Multi-voltage USB Charger Cable: $5-8 on Amazon. USB-A → Mini-B (DS Lite) or USB-A → DSi/3DS tip. Switchable or separate tips. Uses any USB port (PC, wall wart, power bank). Safe, regulated 5V → device negotiates.
  • Official Nintendo AC Adapters: Still sold by Nintendo Store / eBay. Match model number.

Always match voltage & connector. The USB multi-cable is the best modern solution.
