MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) defines the largest data packet your PS3 can send without fragmentation. The default is 1500 bytes—the standard for Ethernet networks. Most users never need to touch this setting, but incorrect values can cause lag, disconnections, or failed downloads.
Larger packets mean fewer headers and less overhead, which can improve throughput on clean connections. But if any device along the path (router, modem, ISP) has a lower MTU, packets get fragmented or dropped—causing retransmissions and latency spikes. That's why "bigger is better" is a myth.
