Can You Connect an iPhone to a PS3?

No direct connection exists between iPhone and PS3 for gaming, screen mirroring, or file transfer. They use incompatible protocols.

Why It Doesn't Work

  • Bluetooth: PS3 pairs only with Sony-certified peripherals (Sixaxis, DualShock 3, BD remotes, keyboards). iPhone's Bluetooth stack doesn't expose the required HID/Gamepad profiles to the PS3.
  • USB: PS3 sees iPhone as an MTP/PTP media device (photos/music) only—no game data, no controller input.
  • DLNA/UPnP: PS3 can stream media from a PC/server; iPhone can act as a DLNA server via apps (e.g., MediaLink, ArkMC) for music/video/photo streaming only.

Workarounds for Related Needs

  • Remote Play (PS4/PS5 only): Official PS Remote Play app on iOS streams PS4/PS5 gameplay to iPhone. Not supported on PS3.
  • Media Streaming: Use a DLNA server app on iPhone → PS3 → Video/Music/Photo tabs → play files.
  • Second Screen Apps (Game-Specific): A few PS3 titles (LittleBigPlanet 2, Gran Turismo 5/6, Battlefield 3/4) had companion iOS apps for stats/maps, but most are delisted/non-functional now.
  • Capture Card + PC: PS3 → HDMI capture card → PC → stream to iPhone via Moonlight/Steam Link/Parsec.

Bottom line: For gameplay, upgrade to PS4/PS5 for Remote Play. For media, use DLNA apps. No native iPhone↔PS3 gaming link exists.
