PS3 Wired Connection "Not Connected" Error: Troubleshooting Guide

If your PS3 says "Not Connected" after plugging in an Ethernet cable, follow these steps to diagnose and fix the issue.

1. Check the Basics

  • Cable: Use a known-good Ethernet (RJ45) cable, not a phone cable. Ensure it clicks firmly into both the PS3 and router.
  • Router: Verify the router is powered on and other devices have internet access.
  • PS3 Settings: Go to Settings → Network Settings → Internet Connection Settings and confirm "Wired Connection" is selected (not Wireless).

2. Standard Troubleshooting

  • Power-cycle everything: Turn off PS3, unplug router/modem, wait 30 seconds, plug modem → router → PS3 back in.
  • Try a different LAN port on the router.
  • Set IP/DNS to Automatic: In Internet Connection Settings → Custom, choose "Auto" for IP Address, DHCP Host Name, DNS, MTU, and Proxy Server.

3. Advanced Steps

  • Static IP Conflict: If you use a static IP, ensure it's outside the router's DHCP range.
  • Router Firewall / Port Forwarding: Open TCP 80, 443, 5223 and UDP 3478, 3479, 3658 for PSN.
  • DMZ (last resort): Place the PS3 in the router's DMZ to rule out firewall issues.
  • MTU: Try lowering MTU to 1472 or 1450 in PS3 network settings.

4. When to Contact Support

If nothing works, gather your PS3 model number, router model, exact error code, and steps already tried, then contact PlayStation Support or your ISP.
