Value of a Backwards Compatible PS3: Pricing Guide

Only launch-model "Fat" PS3s (CECHA/B/C/E, 2006–2007) play PS2 discs natively. Later "Fat" (80GB CECHE, 2008) uses software emulation (partial). All Slims/Super Slims: no PS2 disc support.

Identify Your Model

  • Check back label: CECHA01 (60GB, NTSC), CECHB01 (20GB), CECHC01 (60GB, PAL), CECHE01 (80GB, Motorstorm bundle) = hardware BC.
  • CECHG01/H01/J01/K01/L01/M01/P01/Q01 = no PS2 disc support.

  • YLOD History: Repaired units worth 30–50% less.
  • Backwards Compatibility: Hardware BC (CECHA/B/C/E) commands premium.
  • Firmware: 3.55 or lower (CFW-friendly) adds $50–$100 for homebrew buyers.
  • Cosmetic Condition: Glossy finish scratches easily; mint shell adds value.
  • Included: Sixaxis/DualShock 3, HDMI, AV, power cord, original box.

Where to Check Live Prices

Buyer Tip: Test PS2 disc boot before paying. Many "BC" listings have dead lasers (CD/DVD works, DVD-DL/PS2 fails).
