Sending Friend Requests from PS Vita to PS3: Is It Possible?

No. PS Vita and PS3 maintain separate friend lists on PlayStation Network. You cannot send a friend request from one to the other directly.

Why They're Separate

  • Different firmware architectures (Vita: LiveArea; PS3: XMB).
  • Friend system migrated to unified PSN profile after Vita's prime (PS4 era).
  • Vita's "Friends" app only queries Vita-active users.

How to Be Friends on Both

  1. On PS3: Friends → Add Friend → enter their PSN ID (exact case).
  2. On Vita: Friends app → Search → enter same PSN ID.
  3. Both send requests independently. Once accepted on each, you're friends on both.

Cross-Platform Features That Do Work

  • Cross-Buy: Buy PS3/Vita cross-buy title → download on both.
  • Cross-Save: Supported games (e.g., Sound Shapes, PS All-Stars) sync saves via cloud.
  • Remote Play: Vita as PS3 second screen (limited titles).
  • Messaging: PSN messages sync across PS3/Vita/PS4/PS5/app.

Use the PSNProfiles website to search IDs and compare trophy lists across platforms.
