PS3 Turns On But No Game/Video? Troubleshooting Guide

Likely Hardware Faults

• Hard Drive Failure (Most Common): Clicking sounds, corrupt data, freezes on XMB.
• Blu-ray Drive Dead: Discs not recognized, won't spin.
• GPU/RSX Failure (YLOD precursor): Artifacts, green/purple screen, then black.
• RAM / Southbridge: Rare, but causes boot loops.

Software / Connection Checks

1. Cables: Reseat HDMI/AV. Try known-good cable & TV input.
2. Power Cycle: Unplug 30s, hold Power 5s (discharge), replug.
3. Safe Mode / Database Rebuild:
   • Off → Hold Power ~7s (2 beeps) → Release → Hold Power again ~7s (3 beeps) → Release → Connect controller USB → Select Rebuild Database (keeps data) or Restore File System.
4. System Update: Safe Mode → Update via Internet/USB.
5. Test Another Game/Disc: Isolate disc vs drive vs HDD.

If Nothing Works

• Swap HDD: 2.5" SATA (max 1.5TB, 9.5mm). Reinstall firmware via USB.
• Professional Repair: Reball RSX, replace NEC/TOKIN capacitors (Fat models).
• Replace: Slim/Super Slim cheap used; Fat models unreliable.
