Saving Final Fantasy VII on PS3 (PS1 Classic): Memory Cards Only

FFVII (PS1 Classic on PS3) saves to Virtual Memory Cards. No Save States (unless using CFW/POPS emulator tweaks).

How to Save

  1. Reach a Save Point (Glowing orb/column in field/dungeon).
  2. Press Triangle (Confirm) → Select Slot → Save.
  3. Data writes to Internal Memory Card (VM1/VM2) assigned to that PS1 game.

Manage Memory Cards (PS3 XMB)

  • Game → Game Data Utility → Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2).
  • Create New (15 blocks = 1 PS1 card). Assign to Slot 1/2.
  • Copy/Delete/Backup to USB (FAT32) → Export → Import on another PS3.

PS3 Save States (CFW Only)

  • If on CFW (HEN/CFW) using POPS Emulator (native) or RetroArch (Beetle PSX HW):
  • RetroArch: Quick Save (F2) / Quick Load (F4) → State files. Independent of VM.
  • POPS: Some plugins enable states (pops_emulator.cfg). Unstable.

Critical

Save often. FFVII has long dungeons, no auto-save. Losing 2hrs to power outage hurts.
