How to Host/Play Halo 3 Multiplayer in 2024 — PC Custom Edition, Insignia, or MCC

Official Xbox 360 servers shut down 2014. Current options:

1. Halo 3: Custom Edition (PC) – Best for Custom Servers

• Fan-maintained, supports mods, maps, dedicated servers.
• Download via halocustomedition.com or ElDewrito (0.6+).
• Server browser: HCE Server List.

2. Xbox 360 – Local / Insignia (Fan Servers)

• System Link: LAN play (2–16 consoles via switch/hub).
• Insignia: insignia.live – Fan-run Xbox Live replacement. Restores matchmaking, friends, DLC. Requires modded 360 (RGH/JTAG) or PC client for 360 emulation (Xenia).

3. MCC (PC/Xbox) – Official Modern Experience

Halo: The Master Chief Collection includes Halo 3 with dedicated servers, cross-play, 4K/60fps+.
