A **video game bug** (or glitch) is an **unintended behavior** caused by errors in the game’s code, assets, or engine interaction. It deviates from the designer’s intent and can range from cosmetic to game-breaking.
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Visual / Rendering | Texture flickering (Z-fighting), missing LODs, clipping (camera/body through walls), lighting artifacts, UI scaling. |
| Gameplay / Logic | Quest not triggering, NPC stuck, item duplication, invincible enemy, wrong reward, softlock (progress blocked). |
| Physics / Collision | Falling through floor, launching to space, ragdoll spasms, vehicles climbing walls. |
| Audio | Missing sounds, looping loudly, wrong spatialization, desynced dialogue. |
| Network / Multiplayer | Desync (state mismatch), rubber-banding, hit-reg failure, item loss, duplication. |
| Save / Data | Corrupted save, lost progress, cloud sync conflict, profile wipe. |
| Exploits | Speedrun tricks (OoB, wrong warp), infinite money/XP, god mode via sequence break. |
| Crash / Freeze | CTD (Crash to Dashboard), kernel panic, GPU timeout (TDR), OOM. |
Bugs are inevitable in complex software. Great games are defined by how fast developers squash the critical ones.
