First Video Game Consoles with 32 GB Storage: The Milestone Timeline

"32 GB" wasn't a standard launch spec; early consoles relied on external memory. Here are the milestones:

  • Xbox 360 Elite (2007) – first with 120 GB HDD; earlier 20 GB/60 GB models. No 32 GB SKU.
  • PlayStation 3 – launch 20/60 GB (2006); 40/80/160 GB later. No 32 GB model.
  • Nintendo Wii (2006) – 512 MB internal NAND; SD card slot (supports up to 32 GB SDHC post-4.0 update).
  • PSP Go (2009) – 16 GB internal flash.
  • Nintendo DSi (2008) – 256 MB internal; SD slot (SDHC up to 32 GB).

The first dedicated 32 GB internal storage in a mainstream console was likely the Xbox One S 500 GB / 1 TB (2016) or PS4 Slim 500 GB — 32 GB was skipped as a base size. Handhelds reached 32 GB via removable media first.
