How to Delete (or Deactivate) a PlayStation Network Account

You cannot self-service delete a PSN account. Sony only offers **deactivation** (reversible) via web. Permanent deletion requires **contacting Support** and is not guaranteed.

Option 1: Deactivate (Reversible, Immediate)

  1. Sign in at account.sony.com on a browser.
  2. Go to **Security** → **Device Management** → **Deactivate All** (for consoles).
  3. Then: **Account Settings** → **Close Account** → Follow prompts.

Effect: Account goes dormant. You lose access to purchases, subscriptions, saves, trophies. **Can be reactivated by signing in again.** Data retained by Sony per privacy policy.

Option 2: Request Permanent Deletion (Irreversible, Manual)

  1. Contact PlayStation Support via **Live Chat** (best) or Phone.
  2. State: "I want to permanently delete my PSN account and all associated personal data under GDPR/CCPA."
  3. Verify identity (email, DOB, last purchase, console serial).
  4. Agent submits deletion ticket. **Process takes up to 30 days.**

Critical Warnings

  • No Refunds: Purchases, PS Plus time, wallet funds are forfeited.
  • Game Saves: Cloud saves deleted. Local saves on console remain but are tied to deleted user — unusable.
  • Subscriptions: Cancel PS Plus/Now first to stop auto-renew.
  • Shared Content: If you're a Family Manager, delete child accounts first.
  • Same Email Reuse: After deletion, email *may* be reusable after 6 months (policy varies).

Alternative: Just Stop Using It

Remove payment methods, enable 2FA, sign out everywhere. Account sits inert. Safer than deletion if you might return.
