What Is the Best-Selling Video Game of All Time? Minecraft at 300M+ Copies

Minecraft is the best-selling video game in history, with **over 300 million copies sold** across all platforms (as of Mojang's 2023 announcement).

Why Minecraft Leads

• Platform ubiquity: Available on virtually every device with a screen: PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, PS3/4/5, Xbox 360/One/Series, Switch, 3DS, Wii U, Pi, VR, Fire TV, Chromebook, etc.
• Evergreen sales: Consistent ~15–20M copies/year for over a decade. No reliance on launch hype.
• Demographic breadth: Played by children, adults, educators (Education Edition), and content creators.
• Single SKU (mostly): Java & Bedrock editions count combined; no annual releases fragmenting numbers.

Other Top Contenders (Units Sold)

1. Grand Theft Auto V – ~200M+ (includes GTA Online).
2. Tetris (EA Mobile / Paid Versions) – ~100M+ paid mobile; hundreds of millions including licensed ports/bundles (hard to count).
3. Wii Sports – ~83M (bundled with Wii).
4. PUBG: Battlegrounds – ~75M (paid + free-to-play transition).
5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – ~60M+ (Switch).

Note: "Series" sales (Mario, Pokémon, Call of Duty) exceed single titles, but Minecraft stands alone as a single game entity.
