PS3 (60GB) Online Play: Impossible – PSN Shut Down for PS3 (2021)

You cannot play online on any PS3 anymore. Sony **permanently shut down PlayStation Network for PS3 on September 28, 2021.**

What's Dead

Online multiplayer (all games)
PlayStation Store (purchases, downloads, DLC)
Trophy sync (local only)
Friends list / messaging / parties
Netflix / YouTube / Spotify apps (most delisted/broken)
Remote Play / PS Vita cross-play

What Still Works (Offline Only)

Single-player campaigns (disc or installed)
Local multiplayer (split-screen, same console)
Media playback (Blu-ray, DVD, USB video/music/photos)
Web browser (barely — modern sites fail)
PS1/PS2 classics (if purchased before shutdown)
Homebrew (CFW: HEN / CFW) — emulators, backups, fan mods.

If You Want Online Play

Option	Cost	Notes
PS4 Slim/Pro	$150-250 used	Full PS4 library + PS Now streaming. PS5 games via cloud.
PS5	$450-500	Native PS5 + almost all PS4. Best future-proof.
PC (PS Now / Remote Play)	Subscription + PC	Stream PS4 games. No native PS3 emulation (RPCS3 needs beefy CPU).

60GB Model Specifics

Your 60GB (CECHA/B) has **hardware PS2 backward compatibility** — a collector's item. **Don't mod it for online.** Keep it original for PS2/PS1 discs. Buy a separate PS4/5 for online.
